One of our initial TIGRE applications in the biosciences area is UltraScan, an application developed under the leadership of Dr. Borries Demeler at the Center for Analytical Ultracentrifugation of Macromolecular Assemplies at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. UltraScan is used to analyze data obtained from centrifuges to determine the composition of samples, analyze the folding of proteins, and determine how proteins associate with themselves or other molecules. The three centrifuges at the Center perform between one and three experiments per day and the analysis of each of these experiments consists of many independent tasks that can require up to hundreds of CPU hours to complete.
